## Job description

The aim of the basic education program in Malawi is to improve the quality of
initial primary teacher education in view of an enhanced quality of basic
education in the country. The program works in four output areas, (1) the
achievement of national quality standards, (2) the implementation of the
revised curriculum in teacher education, (3) improvement of teaching practice,
(4) use of information and communication technologies in teaching and
learning.

## Your tasks

> Sensitization and support of cooperation partners on gender and equality in primary teacher education
> Support the implementation of the newly revised Initial Primary Teacher Education Curriculum and existing National Standards in gender and equality aspects
> Developing awareness and training material
> Conduct sensitization and training activities for continuous professional development
> Development of teaching and learning material
> Establishment of effective safeguarding & gender Units at Teacher Training Colleges (TTC) including corresponding mechanism for prevention and protection
> Establish gender/equality clubs at TTC level
> Document the lessons learned and share experiences with other stakeholders and GIZ programs

## Your profile

> Formal qualification as teacher, teacher trainer, educationalist, or gender expert in primary education
> Several years of work experiences in primary education
> Track record as a gender focal person, part of an equal opportunity team, or similar experiences
> Sound knowledge of safeguarding policies, practices, principles and implementation processes
> Experiences in institutional advice
> Familiarity with the approaches of or work experiences in development cooperation
> Good understanding of inclusive education
> Fluent spoken and written English skills

Healthcare In Kasungu, the public district hospital might run out of
medicines, however there are pharmacies, where medicines could be bought.
Shopping and supply options In Kasungu, there is a good choice of vegetables
and fruit available locally, however, there is a limited choice in other
items. There is a possibility of supply trips to Lilongwe (1,5 hours’ drive
from Kasungu to Lilongwe). Accessibility The main highway M1 reaches Kasungu.
Internet and (mobile) phone networks are in general available. Children, young
children Specific organised activities for international children are not
available in Kasungu but in Lilongwe; School situation and fees There is no
international school in Kasungu;

The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk
mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must
adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-
specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact
person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. The
working environment is subject to special restrictions on the freedom of
movement. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family
