Better Extension Training Transforming Economic Returns(BETTER) Project
DISTRICT MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICER
Self Help Africa (SHA) is an international NGO dedicated to the vision of an
economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. We have 50 years of
experience working with smallholder farmers, farmer associations, cooperatives
and agribusinesses across Africa to help farmers grow and sell more food,
improve diets, diversify incomes and make their livelihoods more sustainable
and resilient to external shocks. We also work to build awareness of issues
affecting smallholders and represent their interests at policy and
institutional level. Our sectors of expertise include, Food and nutrition
security, Sustainable rural livelihoods, Access to finance, Farming as a
business, Value chain development, Climate resilience, Natural resource
management, Water and Sanitation and Policy influencing. SHA has been
operating in Malawi since 1994.
Self Help Africa as lead agency, in collaboration with Action Aid, Evangelical
Association of Malawi and Plan International, with funding from the European
Union, is implementing a programme called BETTER, with a total funding of 14.6
million. BETTER is a five year project that aims at increasing the resilience,
food, nutrition and income security of 402,000 smallholder farmers in the 10
districts of Karonga, Chitipa, Mzimba, Kasungu, Nkhata-Bay, Nkhotakota,
Salima, Chiradzulu, Thyolo and Mulanje. BETTER is part of the KULIMA (Kutukula
Ulimi Malawi) Programme.
The District Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will be responsible for all
data collection, analysis, and learning activities in Mulanje & Thyolo
districts in order to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and accountability in
implementation of the BETTER project. The District Monitoring and Evaluation
Officer will work closely the District Project Manager, District Project
Coordinator and Development Facilitators to assess field conditions, support
capacity building initiatives, and facilitate the collection of quality data.
Minimum Requirements
> Degree in Social Sciences, Agriculture Economics, Project Management/Monitoring Evaluation, Statistics or other related fields.
> Must possess at least 3 years professional experience in Monitoring and Evaluation with practical experience in the use of modern data collection methods as well as facilitation of trainings for project staff in M&E.
> Strong analytical and planning skills and an understanding of a range of methods for monitoring, evaluation and assessment to promote evidence-based learning.
> Demonstrated ability to design, commission, and manage assessments and evaluations.
> Experience in designing and coordinating surveys.
Desirable
> Good working knowledge of data analysis packages such as SPSS, STATA, Excel.
> Good knowledge of Ms Office.
> Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and analytical/problem-solving abilities.
