MwAPATA is an independent policy think tank in Malawi. The goal of the MwAPATA
Institute is to promote the formulation of effective, locally led policies and
programs to drive a broad-based agricultural transformation for wealth
creation and improved food security. The institute responds to public and
private sector needs in the agricultural, natural resources, and broader rural
space The MwAPATA Institute is affiliated to the National Planning Commission
and the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The
Institute works closely with Michigan State University, which provides
technical and institution-building support
MwAPATA Institute wishes to recruit highly motivated, proactive service-
oriented and energetic individuals to fill the position of Research Assistant
based in Lilongwe
Research Assistant (1)
The Research Assistant will provide technical and logistical support to
research and field activities for the Institute. The Research Assistant will
closely work with the Institute’s Researcher Fellows. This will involve
assisting in the day-to-day implementation of project activities. including
data collection, analysis, learning and policy dialogue events, supporting
field, and performing specific duties that include
• Designing and implementing data collection activities and analysis. This
includes working with a team to design and develop data collection
instruments. assembling data collection field teams. supervising of data
collection activities, and data entry and cleaning.
• Preparing timely and accurate analysis for reports with guidance from
Researcher Fellows
• Assisting in organizing seminars. workshops. and conferences as and when
required.
• Performing other duties commensurate with your skills and training as may be
assigned.
Qualifications and skills
• Master’s degree or higher in Development Economics, Agricultural Economics,
Economics, Policy Management, or related field.
• Proficiency in quantitative research methods and the use and analysis of
household survey data.
• Extensive experience using Stata is preferred, while expertise using other
similar statistical analysis software packages will be considered. It will
further advantage candidates to have additional experience using other
analytical tools.
• Proficiency in computer assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) programming.
• Excellent written and spoken English and at least one Malawian local
language.
