Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Malawi and
technical support of the MPA, IBM and Health

Thematic Specialist at the IOM Regional Office in Pretoria. The successful
candidate will be responsible and accountable

for coordinating mission projects on Smuggling of Migrants, Trafficking in
Persons, and Protection activities at the IOM

Malawi Office in close coordination with relevant Regional Thematic
Specialists and the Regional Migration Data Hub for

Southern Africa. provide technical support to the mission’s work in the area
of research/counter-trafficking/smuggling/data

management according to the CO’s needs.

Specifically, the candidate will coordinate the activities of the IOM
Development Fund Research Pilot Project “ Assessing

COVID-19’s Impact on Mixed Migration Flows, Focusing on Trafficking in Person,
Smuggling of Migrants and Protection

Risks” in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, as well as Combating smuggling and
irregular migration Project in Malawi

.

Concerning the Research Pilot Project “Assessing COVID-19’s Impact on Mixed
Migration Flows, Focusing on Trafficking

in Person, Smuggling of Migrants and Protection Risks” in Malawi, Mozambique,
and Zimbabwe

• Coordinate the organization and development of the project’s research
activities, in coordination with the Regional Research Officer in Pretoria and
the relevant Regional Thematic Specialists, including by developing TORs,
liaising with the relevant stakeholders on technical and organizational
matters, coordinating the methodology design process and implementation of the
research activities, organizing and assisting with the facilitation of
research-related events, and review of research outputs.

• Coordinate and help facilitating follow up activities to the research
endeavor, specifically in the areas of stakeholders’

capacity-building and awareness raising at the national and local level in the
countries of focus of the project. Facilitate

the coordination and roll out of outreach campaigns and capacity-building
activities with the relevant stakeholders.

• Ensure regular monitoring of the project, as well as progress reports as it
may be required

• Ensure coordination of project activities with focal points in IOM Country
Offices in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, as well as with the relevant UN agencies,
national stakeholders, and other partners.

• Provide support and coordination for the planning, establishment,
implementation and monitoring on combatting smuggling of migrants and
irregular migration projects in Malawi in close coordination with relevant
stakeholders .

• Provide technical support and coordination with national institutions
responsible for managing matters related to smuggling of migrants, trafficking
in persons and other forms of mixed migration

• Contribute to the design and development of national training material on
migration management including human trafficking, migrant smuggling, migrant
rights and deliver trainings accordingly ensuring all COVID-19 mitigation and
preventions measures are adhered to.

• Support in coordinating and rolling out awareness raising and information
campaigns and activities with focus on managing matters pertaining to
smuggling and irregular migration.

• Raising awareness on matters pertaining to the management of smuggling and
irregular migration issues in Malawi at local and national forums.

• Contribute to project development, strategic planning and reporting for IOM
Malawi Migration Management Unit.

• Support in establishment, liaising and maintaining good working relations
with Government entities, local authorities, implementing partners, UN
agencies and other stakeholders as relevant to the projects and activities on
the thematic areas.

• Participate in meetings and related forums in coordination with the Chief of
Mission and undertake duty travel as required.

• Contribute in generating project ideas and support mission resource
mobilization activities

• Compile talking points for the Chief of Mission, compile project progress
reports for management, donors and stakeholders as may be required

• Maintain confidentiality of beneficiaries’ information in line with the IOM
Ethics and Conduct

• Mainstream Gender in all project activities including but not limited to
Gender disaggregation ensuring the needs of woman, men and girls are taken
into consideration during project implementation.

• Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Demography, Statistics,
Social Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Humanitarian
Affairs, or related field with minimum of two years professional experience.

EXPERIENCE

• Solid experience on Project Management, preferable in Migration or related
issues.

• Experience providing support to national efforts in the area of
training/capacity building, law enforcement and operations

• Knowledge of social development issues as well as general Migration related
issues in the Country and the Region.

• Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with
relevant Government counterparts, International organizations, Donor countries
and private sector entities.

• Knowledge of Mixed Migration in the Southern African region, including
migrant smuggling and trafficking in person dynamics

• Previous experience working on migration matters in relations to Malawi,
Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe

SKILLS

• Understanding of mixed research methods and their applicability to the field
of migration

• Good knowledge of project management cycle including project, development,
administration and evaluation concept and procedures.

• In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas
dealt with by the Organization.

• Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.
