Synod of Livingstonia
The Synod of Livingstonia Development Department (SOLDEV) is the development
arm of the Church of Central African Presbyterian of the Synod of Livingstonia
that was established in 1993. The department is mandated by the Synod to
facilitate the implementation of community based sustainable projects in Food
and Nutrition Security; Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Humanitarian
Emergency Response, Climate Change and Environmental Management while
mainstreaming disaster risk
reduction, HIV & AIDS, gender as cross cutting issues. The Development
Department envisages a society of self-reliant communities committed to
attaining improved sustainable livelihoods and development through
collaboration with the Church and development partners in God’s love.
SOLDEV has secured funding from European Union through Christian Aid for
implementation of Social Support for Resilience Programme Linking Communities
under Social Protection to Resilience (SoSuRe – Mlumikizi) in Mzimba North and
South for a period of three years. The overall objective of the programme is
to contribute to reduction of poverty through enhancing resilience among the
most vulnerable households in Malawi in the districts of Mzimba North and
South, Zomba and Mulanje. For the Christian Aid led consortium, the programme
is targeting the current 14,907 SCTP beneficiaries in Mzimba District, most of
whom are female headed households, and an expected additional 19,495 SCTP
beneficiaries in the second year of the project.
The Development Department is therefore inviting applications from suitably
