Synod of Livingstonia

The Synod of Livingstonia Development Department (SOLDEV) is the development
arm of the Church of Central African Presbyterian of the Synod of Livingstonia
that was established in 1993. The department is mandated by the Synod to
facilitate the implementation of community based sustainable projects in Food
and Nutrition Security; Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Humanitarian
Emergency Response, Climate Change and Environmental Management while
mainstreaming disaster risk
reduction, HIV & AIDS, gender as cross cutting issues. The Development
Department envisages a society of self-reliant communities committed to
attaining improved sustainable livelihoods and development through
collaboration with the Church and development partners in God’s love.

SOLDEV has secured funding from European Union through Christian Aid for
implementation of Social Support for Resilience Programme Linking Communities
under Social Protection to Resilience (SoSuRe – Mlumikizi) in Mzimba North and
South for a period of three years. The overall objective of the programme is
to contribute to reduction of poverty through enhancing resilience among the
most vulnerable households in Malawi in the districts of Mzimba North and
South, Zomba and Mulanje. For the Christian Aid led consortium, the programme
is targeting the current 14,907 SCTP beneficiaries in Mzimba District, most of
whom are female headed households, and an expected additional 19,495 SCTP
beneficiaries in the second year of the project.

The Development Department is therefore inviting applications from suitably
qualified and experienced personnel for the positions of Project Coordinator,
Project Officers, Assistant Project Accountant, Administrative Assistant and
driver that are tenable within the project covering Mzimba District.

Purpose

The Project Coordinator and other Officers will become part of a project team
that will be delivering a resilient project targeting Social Cash transfer
beneficiaries in Mzimba District. The Action is designed to go beyond
scattered small scale direct interventions and focus on sustainable and
integrated effective resilience building geared towards breaking the cycle of
food and nutrition insecurity through tailored packages.

1\. PROJECT COORDINATOR (1 position)

Reporting To Programmes Manager

Duties

> Take responsibility for the day to day management of the project and coordinate the planning, implementation, supervision of activities to ensure efficient provision of technical support service to the project team.
> Develop, implement and monitor district level project work plans and budget in line with project log frame, agreed deliverables, and resources. This includes effective project budget control and monitoring in line with SOLDEV financial procedures and guidelines and Fraud and risk management policies.
> Work with communities to vision, design, prioritise and implement project initiatives, innovations and collective actions, through coordinating and liaising with other stakeholders
> Implement a continuous training scheme for graduation beneficiaries, including various agricultural/agribusiness trainings, capacity building and natural resource management activities
> Initiate, coordinate and supervise scheduled capacity development and support activities for frontline workers at project level.
> Provide on the job support to project team and other stakeholders (relevant government extension workers).
> Facilitate the exchange of information between the project and relevant stakeholders and with other implementing partners as well.
> Contribute to review and analysis of lessons learnt from project field activities and to the development and dissemination of best practices.
> Deliver technical support and guidance in all aspects of project implementation. This includes beneficiary mobilization training, promotion of village savings and loans, promotion of Disaster Risk Reduction, promotion of resilience building initiatives, technical agronomic and agribusiness development support, market integration etc
> Ensure close collaboration and networking with district partners, including government and communities.
> Closely monitor and assess project activities to ensure relevance, effectiveness and efficiency.
> Monitor the project budget and expenditure to ensure that is in line with project activity outputs.
> In conjunction with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, develop and submit monthly monitoring and documentation reports to the Head of Programmes.
> Represent the project and organization at district level where appropriate

#### Qualifications and Experience

> Minimum 3 years’ hands on experience in implementation of a livelihoods support project with bias for climate smart agriculture, Village Savings and Loans, Environmental Management, Disaster Risk Management
> University Degree in Agriculture, Food Security, Agronomy, Community Development, Disaster Risk Reduction, Social work, Development Studies, Environmental Management
> Working knowledge of English and in the local language spoken at project catchment area
> Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power point,
> Excellent communication and community facilitation skills
> Good report writing skills.
> Basic financial management skills.
> Must have a clean motor cycle riding licence (Class A Driving Licence)
