CIC-Africa Co-operatives Insurance Limited is a holding Company with two
subsidiaries, namely; Co-operatives General insurance Limited and Co-
operatives Life Assurance Limited. The holding Company was incorporated in
Malawi on 06th October 2014. Co-operatives General Insurance Limited would
like to fill the following vacancy;

LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER-TO BE BASED IN LILONGWE

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Reporting to the Managing Director, The Legal and Compliance Officer is
expected to perform but not limited to the following duties;

> Initiate out of court settlements with third party claimants.
> Enhance company savings by pursuing recoveries against negligent third parties
> Respond to demand letters from third party advocates/ claimants
> Assign service providers such as advocates and investigators to aid in recoveries
> Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions for review/ advice to management
> Review pleadings, legal opinions and status reports prepared by external advocates and advice the company accordingly
> Instruct external advocates on out of court negotiations on recoveries
> Raise payments (judgments, fee notes and discharge vouchers)
> Implement and manage an effective legal compliance program by creating effective action plans and regularly audit company procedures, practices and documentation to identify possible weaknesses or risks.
> Develop and review company policies.
> Advise management on the company’s compliance with laws and regulations through detailed reports.
> Employees Training on latest and relevant regulations and processes.
> Maintaining and updating Company’s Statutory Books.
> Communication with stakeholders and maintaining proper paperwork and record keeping for the company.
> Preparing board papers and coordinate board meetings

Qualifications and Experience

> Bachelor’s Degree in Law required.
> At least three years of progressive work experience preferably in an Insurance or financial industry
> Self-starter and ability to work independently
> Strong skills in prioritization, organization and attention to detail
> Demonstrated professional writing and analytical skills
> Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including outlook, word, Excel, and PowerPoint
