African Parks

African Parks (AP) is a not-for-profit organization that secures a mandate to
conserve through Public-Private Partnerships with Governments and communities
for the rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas in Africa,
and here in Malawi, AP has secured this mandate for the management of Majete
Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota ildlrfe Reserve, Liwonde National Park and
Mangochi Forest Reserve In the pursuit to fulfil its objectives, African Parks
Majete is implementing a community livelihoods improvement project that aims
to empower local communities around the Protected Area. The aim is to increase
honey production and sale whilst ensuring communities derive direct tangible
benefits from wildlife management. The project is implemented in collaboration
with Honey with Heart Limited.

In order to successfully carry out the project Honey with Heart plans to
engage a Project officer on a full time basis. The Project Officer will be
responsible for the following.

1. Plan, Implement. Monitor and Control. the Project using an agreed project management methodology
2. Integration and coordination of the project work for all project components as well as with management consultants according to laid out procedures.
3. Coordinate integration of work being carried out by Project Staff, community members and stakeholders engaged to the project
4. Monitor & Control the implementation rate of the project to ensure that project targets are achieved within the project framework
5. Apply change/adaptive management strategies to improve the project work
6. Coordinate the Project Delivery Schedule to ensure timely delivery of outputs/deliverables
7. Implement the of Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements involving Bee keeping Cooperatives, Honey with Heart, Bee Parks Trust and African Parks Majete.
8. Coordinate bee keeping trainings
9. Manage project resources/assets.
10. Manage project stakeholders; ensure information flow, discussions and feedback among the various stakeholders of the
11. Manage project communication; ensure proper record keeping of all plans. reports and correspondences, etc

Qualification, Experience and competences

The Project officer shall have the following minimum qualifications,
experience and competencies

Qualifications

> Holders of a Diploma in Natural Resources Management or Community Development from any rocognized institution. Those with Degree in Natural resources or Community Development will have an added advantage.

Experience and competencies.

1. Have not less than 5 years’ experience in managing bee keeping projects
2. Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural groups and environment
3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse group of people
4. Demonstrated team player and team builder
5. Professional approach with strong work ethics
6. Excellent communicator in English and local language oral and written
7. Demonstrated competence in delivery of presentations using various audio-visual or electronic formats
8. Demonstrated self-starter

Other Requirements

1. The project officer is required to be based at the Project Site (Namitsempha)
2. To have a valid motor bike driving license
