Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC)
The Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation is a nonprofit affiliate of the
University of Maryland, Baltimore established by UMB to carry out UMB’s
programs to strengthen health systems and improve the human condition in the
areas where UMB operates through MGIC. MGIC has UMB-approved affiliates, field
offices, and program offices (collectively known as country offices)
throughout sub-Saharan Africa. MGIC activities are funded generally by U.S.
government entities through cooperative agreements with UMB. The University of
Maryland Baltimore (UMB) has received PEPFAR funding from the US
government/CDC for Accelerating Malawi’s PEPFAR Laboratory Logistics
Infrastructure for Quality (AMPLIFY). This cooperative agreement aims to
achieve and maintain HIV epidemic control. AMPLIFY will strengthen the
laboratory efficiency, capacity; and-quality- through improving laboratory
infrastructure., improving laboratory data utilization for decision making,
training human resources, and adhering to quality management systems.
Applications are therefore welcome for the following vacant position.
DATA ANALYST
The primary role of the data analyst is provided insight and analysis of data
through dear visual, written and verbal communication. The data analyst
responsibilities include conducting full lifecycle analysis to include
requirements, activities and design. Data analysts will develop analysis and
reporting plans They will also monitor performance and quality control plans
to identify improvements. Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and
complexity. This position requires data analysis experience and advanced Excel
skills and data management applications for interpreting data and analyzing
results using. statistical techniques. Developing and implementing data
analyses. data collection systems and other strategies that optimize
statistical efficiency and quality. Acquiring data -from primary or secondary
data sources and maintaining databases
Roles and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
> Use excel, SAS, STATA and or R, analyze data through statistical approaches such as longitudinal and time series analysis, mixed effect modeling, logistic regression analyses, and model building techniques.
> Develop detailed data analysis plans and descriptions of analyses for large databases in collaboration with MGIC M&E and Program teams 3
> Design, implement, and track queries, coordinate with other laboratory staff to resolve data problems.
> Promote data reviews and use-internally, in the districts and testing labs
> Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual data aggregations or reports based on data analysis plans
> Manage users and user roles
> Monitor and audit data quality
> Mine and analyze datasets, draw valid inferences and present them successfully to management using a reporting tool.
> Create data dashboards, graphs and visualizations
> Assess tests and implementing new or upgraded software and assisting with strategic decisions on new systems.
> Troubleshoot the reporting database environment and report
> Train end users on new reports and, dashboards.
> Provide technical expertise data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.
> Travel to sites for technical support, mentoring and supervision
> Other duties as assigned by team lead

Required and Preferred Qualifications
> Master’s degree Biostatistics, epidemiology, Demography, Statistics or mathematics and two (2) years of statistical analysis experience analyzing studies or LIMS using a range of statistical techniques in A HIV and health-related environment
> At least 4 years’ analytics working experience in HIV programmes.
> Skill in statistical programming, interpretation and data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications.
> Experience with analyzing HIV and health services data and conducing longitudinal and time series analysis is strongly preferred.
> Ability to design research studies.
> Good understanding of data collection procedures and data warehousing for monitoring and evaluation.
> Able to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
> Skilled in using measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
> Excellent communication, organizational, and protect management skills.
> Able to maintain confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
> Able to network with and provide information to key groups and individuals.
> Able to work as part of a team and independently perform or lead research activities.
> Able to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.
> Able to work with very tight deadlines.
> Able to work under pressure, with minimal supervision. result-oriented.
> Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
