MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Construction Manager (CM) will be responsible for the management of the
project execution activities of the project. The CM will be required to ensure
effective utilization of site resources. His main duties is to ensure
effective project execution, according to specification and SHEQ requirements,
and within the allocated timeframes and budgets provided by the Project
Manager.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION /
QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum Education
N6 Mechanical / Electrical or Higher
Additional Qualifications
Registered as a Professional Construction Manager (Pr.CM) at SACPCMP
Competency in NEC / FIDIC / JBCC contracts.

Minimum Work Experience
7 years’ experience in the construction industry relevant to electrical
infrastructure sector.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB KNOWLEDGE KNOWLEDGE
? Be able to utilize computer and IT related resources effectively – such as
Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, Projects Candy, Build smart etc.
? Good understanding of the various fields of electrical infrastructure,
including standard construction practices.
? Good understanding of the logistical requirements in the construction site.
? Good understanding of the skills and resource requirements in the electrical
construction project.
Good understanding of the statutory and legal requirements applicable to a
construction site

on the daily activities of the project.

> Project Planning

? Define the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management
? Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities
needed to successfully complete the project
? Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, BoM, etc.) required to
complete the project
? Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the
resources to the activities
? Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that
will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required
? Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be
evaluated at its completion

> Project Implementation

? Execute the project according to the project plan
? Document project activities according to set standards
? Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately
documented and secured
? Monitor the progress of project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure
the successful completion.
? Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders and staff on the
progress of the project
? Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular
basis to ensure that it meets the project standards

> Project Finance

? Writes reports on status of project for management
? Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures
? Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to
senior management on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly)
? Ensures that all information required for invoicing purposes is correct and
submitted timeously to finance.
? Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and
procedures
? Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date
? Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for senior
management.

> Project Evaluation

? Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the
required level of quality
? Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning
phase
? Commissioning of protection and metering at distribution substations
? Ensures adherence to all Safety, Health and Environment regulations on site.
? Mitigates any risks associated with projects.

> People Management

?

> Tendering

? Can be requested on an ad hoc basis to assist with technical input
especially in terms of the constructability of the project. Might be required
to attend tender clarification meetings

> Contractual & Commercial

? The CM will have direct interaction with clients and consultants on site. It
is the responsibility of the CM to ensure that the PM is fully aware of any
discussions, information supplied and site instructions during interaction
with the client in the absence of the PM.
? The CM is not allowed to make any commitments to the client / consultant
without the PM’s consent. If the PM cannot facilitate the decision it will be
escalated to the Divisional Head.

> Project Plan and Schedule

? The CM will provide input to the schedule compilation.
? The CM will take ownership of the schedule and ensure proper implementation.
? The CM report any deviations, slips or discrepancies to the PM.
? The CM is to discuss mitigation actions with the CM should the schedule fall
behind.
? The CM is to ensure accurate update information to validate the integrity of
the schedule.
? The CM will ensure that the entire construction team is properly informed of
the project execution plan and timeframes.
