Christian Health Association of Malawi - CHAM
The Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical umbrella
association co-owned by Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Malawi Council of
Churches. CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi and
it has 179 health facilities and 11 training colleges which are located in all
parts of the country. Some of these health facilities are situated in remote
and hard-to-reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide
technical support, and develop health services among all its member facilities
in order to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all
matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi.
CHAM wishes to recruit a qualified and suitable person in the following
position
FINANCE MANAGER
Grade CM3
Reports to Director of Finance and Administration
Purpose of Job
To lead all day-to-day accounting operations, with functional responsibility
for accounting, accounts payable and payroll. Responsibilities also include
production of financial reports; proper maintenance of accounting records;
accurate processing of financial transactions; and administration of a
comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance
the accuracy of CHAM’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported
results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Key Responsibilities & Duties
> Ensure timely and accurate completion of all CHAM books including general ledger and sub ledger and ensure they are kept up to date
> Prepare monthly financial reports for Management’s informed decisions
> Take charge of processing of liquidations for advances ensuring that appropriate procedures are adhered to and cash receipts, including monthly advance report, is submitted to the Head of Finance.
> Monitor bank balances and cash flow for operational needs including forecasting (liquidation plan) and follow up on donors and membership contributions to ensure adequate cash for operations
> Ensure bank reconciliation statements are prepared on monthly basis
> Monitor procedure, compliance and internal controls for all departments including member facilities who benefit from CHAM funds
> Produce segregated records at the request of program staff (i.e. expenses for specific projects/ departments, location or grants
> Compiling reports on fuel utilisation and sending them to head of finance and administration
> Supervise accounting staff
> Preparing for audits
> To support programs with budgeting, budget tracking and reporting to donors.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
> Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance or Commerce from the University of Malawi or other accredited Universities
> ACCA, CIMA, CA (M) or Master’s Degree in a relevant field
> Minimum 4 years of finance and accounting experience at senior level including finance, accounting, audit, and analysis (including gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to management and external stakeholders)
> Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
> Experience in NGO and private sectors
> Proficiency with Sun System or other accounting software and excellent Excel skills.
