POSITION SHER SPECIALIST
Location Nchalo, Chikwawa
JOB DESCRIPTION
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is the country’s leading producer of raw, refined
and specialty sugars; employing more than 9000 employees annually. The company
is part of Illovo Sugar Africa Group; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated
British Foods Plc (ABF).
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc – Nchalo Estate invites applications from suitably
qualified persons to till the following position
SHER SPECIALIST- 1 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT
Purpose of the role
Build capability in SHERQ through mentorship and coaching, and implementation
of programs to build competence and commitment across levels and functions.
Minimum requirements
Bachelors’ degree in Occupational Health and Safety/ Environment/ Quality/
Occupational Hygiene or equivalent in engineering
5-7 years’ practical work experience in Occupational Health and Safety
Good communication skills, project management skills; good working knowledge
of all applicable SHER legislation, regulations and related authorities;
analytical ability and proficiency in MS Office
Key duties
Build capability in SHER through mentorship and coaching, and implementation
of programmes to build competence and commitment across levels and functions
Provide technical support to the site for adherence to specific SHERQ
legislative requirements (e.g. air quality, water use, waste management and
effluent permits)
Contribute to the development of the site SHER strategy, standards, processes
and plans
Support the site in the communication, implementation and entrenchment of
systems, best practices, minimum standards, policies, processes, tools,
technology and enablers
Establish and oversee communication structures and processes for issue
resolution related to SHER
Facilitate processes, interventions and programs to determine and address
business risk in SHER (le Occupational Health and Safety, Fire Prevention,
Emergency Planning).
Oversee all SHER audit requirements for the site (internal and external
stakeholders including regulatory bodies).
