## Job Description
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking an experienced consultant
with a high level of commitment to assist the CGIAR Research Program on Roots,
Tubers and Bananas (RTB) in a) technical review of draft and final version
chapters of book title Roots, Tubers & Bananas in Food Systems Innovations
being published by Springer in 2021.
The book will describe innovations in food systems for root, tuber and banana
crops developed over the past 10 years in developing countries. It includes
outcomes of the CGIAR Research Program in Roots, Tubers and Banana (RTB), a
decade long initiative encompassing many tropical countries, academic and
industry partners, and multiple crops as well as other major initiatives. Such
innovations aim to create value and new sources of income and jobs and improve
the quality of life of its users. Often these crops and their value chains are
particularly important for women, so successful innovation entails strong
consideration of gender.
It will also describe and elaborate on the effective and successful innovation
model RTB has developed where diverse partners and organizations, both
academic and private, are brought together to focus on value creation for the
end user and generate economic and societal outcomes. RTB has accelerated the
scaling of innovations to reach many end users within cost/benefit
constraints.
The book is comprised of 18 chapters. The consultant will review the chapters
related to his(her) area of expertise.
Scope of Work
1. Review the technical content for accuracy of 9 chapters, following the guidelines provided by RTB
2. Provide feedback to RTB editing team of all the first drafts of the chapters submitted
3. Provide feedback to RTB editing team of all the final drafts of the chapters submitted
Expected Conditions
> The payment is a fixed and consolidated fee
Deliverables
1. Technical review of 1st draft of 9 chapters following feedback template provided by RTB editing team (February 28, 2021).
2. Technical review of final draft of 9 chapters following feedback template provided by RTB editing team (August 31, 2021).
### Requirements
Qualifications/special skills
> PhD Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development or Social Sciences.
> 20 years of professional experience
> Professional experience in designing and assessing innovation and dissemination in RTB-related food and seed systems, with a focus on scaling as well as gender issues.
> Writing and editing experience. Plus expertise related to RTB crops in one or more of the following
> Marketing and post-harvest technology
> Agriculture and nutrition
> Management of pests and diseases.
> Breeding and seed systems
> Social science and gender analysis
> Experience as a book and technical editor
This consultant WILL NOT be in contact with children or vulnerable adults.
