The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a
qualified candidate to serve as a Communications Specialist attached to the
International Food Policy Research Institute’s (IFPRI) Malawi Strategy Support
Program based in Lilongwe. The position will be full-time on a fixed-term one-
year contract, renewable subject to performance and funding.
Key Responsibilities
The role of the communications specialist is to ensure that the program’s
policy outputs reach those who can learn from, apply, share, and adapt them to
bring about change. The communications specialist will work closely with IFPRI
researchers within and outside Malawi and with program partners to write,
produce, edit, format, and disseminate communications products to achieve
maximum program impact.
Amongst other duties, the communication specialist will be expected to
> Contribute to the preparation of working papers, policy notes, project notes, reports, quarterly progress reports, and other communication products
> Provide copy-editing support to researchers for publishing project related outputs
> Manage and regularly update website content and increase website traffic
> Manage twitter account and related content
> Summarize journal articles and research dissemination events into blogs for general audience
> Prepare social media toolkits for promotion of research outputs, seminars, etc.
> Write, design, and circulate a quarterly newsletter
