JOB DESCRIPTION

Term Fixed Term Contract – 1 Year Term with option for renewal.
Hours 40 hours per week, Full Time
Location Chikwawa District and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital

SUMMARY OF PROJECT*>
The Community-Based Surveillance for the Early Detection and Treatment of
Hydrocephalus is a project being carried in Chikwawa District, Malawi. The
study project is delivered in partnership with the Chikwawa District Hospital,
working alongside the district’s local health facilities with funding from
RHF. This research project is aimed at registering and following up under one
year Children born in Chikwawa, and measuring their head circumference every
month with the aim of diagnosing abnormal growth of the head and development
of hydrocephalus early so that they can be referred to hospital early and
prevent brain damage and subsequent neurologic disability due to late
detection and institution of surgical treatment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans and coordinates the implementation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures.
2. Promotes study related capacity building amongst persons involved in the study and put in place
measures to ensure sustainability of head circumference measurement post
study.

3. Plans, implements, and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol.
4. Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities;
acts as the primary administrative point of contact for persons involved in
the research project.

5. Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, Board chair, RHF and/or regulatory bodies.
6. Plans and coordinates regular project related meetings.
7. Implement quality control process throughout the conduct of the study.
8. Coordinates and administers research study associated activities.
9. Ensures that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed.
10. Oversee and coordinates participant recruitment and follow up, Serves as principle administrative
liaison for the project.

11. Develops and maintains recordkeeping systems and procedures.
12. To perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
13. To ensure that confidentiality procedures and policies are adhered to when collecting, storing and
sharing data.

14. To conduct on-job demonstration on the process of participant recruitment as refresher to the existing health workers or training to new health workers.
15. To ensure that materials necessary for the study conduct are available all the time.
16. To facilitate movement of refereed study participants between Chikwawa and Queen Elizabeth Central
Hospital and oversee their stay at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital until
discharge.

17. Oversee and keep record of all project financial expenditure.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS*>
1\. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Environment Health,
Statistics.
2\. Qualification in project management and M and E will be an added
advantage.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS*>
1\. Minimum of three-years Health Care Related research experience at
leadership level.
2\. Familiarity with community research-based principles.
3\. Extensive knowledge of issues relating to people living with
hydrocephalus.
4\. Excellent facilitation skills
5\. Exceptional program coordination and management skills
6\. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7\. Strong knowledge of public/government hospital’s working systems and
politics.
8\. Familiarity with data storage and analysis systems such as SPPS is an
asset.
