Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCM-CFM) is a not-
for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in
the health sector. Our Mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly
ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional
training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria,
malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of
children and families worldwide.

The Baylor-Tingathe program was designed in 2008 to respond to suboptimal
uptake of PMTCT and pediatric HIV services in Malawi. The program seeks to
support Malawi in reaching the ambitious UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals, by improving
the identification of HIV-positive persons, timely treatment initiation, and
long-term engagement in care. The program is funded by USAID, and is currently
operating in 7 districts in Malawi. Baylor-Malawi is seeking qualified
candidates to fill the positions of

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND POSITION DESCRIPTION

*> Project description*> The Study Coordinator will support an NIMH-
funded implementation science study on HIV voluntary assisted contact tracing
(ACT). ACT is an evidence-based practice that efficiently identifies HIV-
infected persons in need of HIV treatment and HIV-uninfected persons in need
of HIV prevention. Malawi, like many countries in sub-Saharan Africa, has
adopted ACT policies. However, Malawi’s ACT implementation has been sub-
optimal due to deficits in health worker capacity and clinical coordination.
Our team is a collaboration between the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill and [ Tingathe ](https//www.tingathe.org/) , a Malawi-based PEPFAR
implementing partner that supports Malawi’s Ministry of Health. Through this
grant, we will build on our team’s preliminary work to 1) finalize a set of
implementation strategies (theory-based health worker training and continuous
quality improvement); 2) package these strategies into a blended learning
platform that combines digital and face-to-face modalities; and 3) rigorously
evaluate the package for implementation, service uptake, and cost-
effectiveness outcomes.

Position Description*> The study coordinator is the operational lead of the
study. He/she will lead study planning, formative work, trial launch, and
implementation. The coordinator will serve as the primary liaison with
district-level staff, investigators, and others. He/she will supervise
research and project staff and ensure all study recruitment, retention, and
data collection targets are met.

Duties and responsibilities*>

> Support development of implementation package and oversee all pilot testing
> Oversee formative work to finalize and refine implementation package
> Develop strong collaborative relationships with national, district, and facility-level leadership
> Coordinate regulatory aspects of study (NHSRC amendments, audits, etc.)
> Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities
> Acts as a point of reference for participants and others by answering questions and keeping them informed on the project progress
> Lead in training and orienting staff including any technical staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research protocol, as appropriate to the position
> Coordinate research study logistics
> Conduct qualitative research (preferred)
> Proactively identify challenges in study implementation and develop solutions
> Oversee management of study staff
> Ensure all qualitative and quantitative is collected in a high quality manner
> Implement quality control process throughout the conduct of the trial
> Populate, organize, and maintain other information files, both electronic and paper
> Other research-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly-organized results-oriented individual with
experience as a researcher and team leader. Desired qualifications include;

> 5+ years’ experience managing teams
> Advanced degree (e.g. MPH, PhD, MBBS, etc.)
> Leader with demonstrated ability to work with colleagues at all levels in the organization, and develop and maintain respectful relationships with donors, government and stakeholders
> A quantitative and/or qualitative research skillset
> Background in Implementation Science
> Strong communication and interpersonal skills
> Strong oral and written English and Chichewa skills
> Experience monitoring programs/study and analyzing data.
> In-depth knowledge of HIV programming and the Ministry of Health service delivery System is preferred
> Computer skills in Microsoft word, Excel and Power point as a minimum

Work Environment

> Lilongwe, Malawi and district program implementation sites
> Frequent travel within Malawi will be expected (up to 50%)
> Multi-cultural work environment
