Job Summary

The Malawi YESA project is a United States Agency for International
Development (USAID)-funded contract to refine the early grade reading
assessment system in Malawi and build the capacity of communities, teachers,
and Ministry of Education (MOE) to consistently use this system to improve
learner outcomes. One Division Education Coordinator will be stationed in
Lilongwe at the project office and one Division Education Coordinator will be
stationed in Blantyre, co-located within a MoEST division office. This
position will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of assessment
and remediation work across schools and communities within the division. In
carrying out these responsibilities the Division Education Coordinator will
work in partnership with USAID and local-government agencies and officials,
and other partners and project staff.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

> Facilitate implementation of YESA at the division and zonal levels
> Promote close collaboration with key stakeholders such as MoEST and other USAID IPs
> Train and support local subcontractor, as well as designated MoEST staff and community members to use the school and community-based assessment and remediation tools
> Conduct school monitoring visits and provide coaching to teachers, section heads, head teachers, PEAs, and other MOE officials
> Submit monthly field reports
> Document of success stories to profile project impact
> Collect various school data as required and feed into Monitoring and Evaluation data base.
> Maintains productive working relationships with project partners and key counterparts, and reports to the Deputy Chief of Party
> Any other duties as assigned from time to time

Preferred Qualifications

> Bachelor’s Degree in international education, non-formal and/or other alternative education approaches, basic education, teacher training, and/or social/behavioral sciences
> At least 4 years of technical experience in working with schools and/or communities in a developing country context
> Experience overseeing trainings
> Technical ability to develop materials to support effective capacity building in reading assessments and remediation in the school system
> Experience monitoring, documenting, and reporting on project activities and school level implementation of project inputs
> Significant experience in Malawi, including thorough knowledge of specific educational priorities
> Demonstrated experience in capacity development with ministry of education staff and teachers
> Experience working with USAID highly prioritized
> Strong written and verbal communication skills
> Fluency in English required

Minimum Qualifications

> ( 2+ ) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
