Estates Manager
Agrivest is a privately owned agricultural investment company. Currently the
company owns two macadamia farms, Chitakale and Mwame, situated in the
Mangochi district of Malawi. Both farms have existing macadamia plantations
and are harvesting 130 ha from trees between 5 and 15 years old. The farm is
embarking on a $ 4 million development program taking the combined area under
macadamia trees to 505 ha over the next 36 months. There after the farm will
focus on increasing the macadamia production from 120 mt NIS to 3,500mt NIS by
2030.
The Company is looking for an estate manager with the following
qualifications and interest
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or Farm Management
Minimum work experience of 5 years as a farm manager at a sizable and
reputable farm.
Experience in growing Macadamia of other tree crops
Strong organizational and administration skills
Target driven.
Ability to develop and work with spreadsheets and farm budgets
Basic knowledge of business management and accounting
Strong people management skills
Knowledge of farm equipment and the ability to manage a farm work shop
Basic understanding and experience in managing farm building projects
A good understanding of soils
Tree nurseries
Other Interests that will be beneficial
Sheep production.
Honey production.
Forestry and wildlife management and conservation.
Considerations
The farm is in a fairly remote and quiet area of rural Malawi. The candidate
must be comfortable with a quiet rural lifestyle with the farm being 220 km
from the national commercial capital. There is very good 3 G conectivity. The
two Agrivest farms are 100km apart, 60 km of this is tar toad and 40 km is a
dirt road. The candidate must be of sound health with no underlying medical
conditions that need regular medical attention. An intention to hold the post
for 3 – 6 years. The ideal age range 30 – 50 years old. Remuneration will
attractive and based on the candidates qualifications.
The Farms
1) Chitakale Farm
Situated 215 km from Blantyre city. 100 km from Liwonde town and 100 km from
Mangochi town. The farm is 100 km away from Mwame Estate.
500 ha of which 260 ha is arable.
133 ha of established Macadamia plantation ( 1 -15 yrs old)
Two perennial streams and 3 small dams.
A new dam site for a 500 000 CM dam has been identified and is about to be
built in the next 12 months.
Cell phone and 3G signal available on parts of the farm.
3 km from National Electricity grid.
The farm backs up onto the very beautiful Mangochi forest reserve that is run
by Africa Parks. The farm will have access points to the Forest reserve.
Development project includes
Connecting to the National Electricity Grid.
Building a 500,000 CM dam.
Planting out 230 ha of macadamia in the next 3 seasons.
Developing 260 ha of drip irrigation.
Developing infrastructure including.
Construction of offices and workshops.
Storage shed.
Managers and staff housing.
Farm roads.
2) Mwame Estate
Situated 315 km from Blantyre city. And 350 km from Lilongwe City. 180 km from
Liwonde town and 65 km from Mangochi town. The farm is 100 km away from
Chitakale Estate
690 ha of which an estimated 300 ha is arable.
75 ha of established Macadamia plantation ( 1 – 5yrs old )
Two perennial streams and 1 small dam.
A new dam site for a 500 000 CM dam has been identified
Cell phone and 3G on parts of the farm
3 km from national electricity grid
The farm is surrounded by the very beautiful Nanizimu forest reserve
Development project includes
Connecting to the national electricity grid.
Building a 500,000 CM dam.
Planting out 230 ha of macadamia in the next 3 seasons.
