JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Grade: NC 6
Department/Division: Finance and Administration
Division: Accounting Division
Reports to: Accountant
Responsible for: Accounts Assistant

PURPOSE. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Purpose of the job:
To provide accounting and financial management services in the Council.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Capturing financial data to appropriate accounts in an automated accounting
system
Reconciling general ledger accounts and effecting the necessary adjustments
Processing invoices, payments and receipts
Preparing and remitting taxes and other statutory and regulatory deductions
Safe keeping of cheques and other accounting documents
Conducting daily banking activities
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND PERFORMANCE FACTORS

Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications/Experience

Degree in Accountancy/Finance awarded by an accredited higher education
institution. Those studying towards a professional qualification such as ACCA,
CIMA or ACA will have an added advantage, plus
At least three (3) years experience
Functional skills (Behavioural Competencies/Attributes

Accountability and transparency
Microsoft office and finance management packages
Integrity
Supervisory Skills
Time management
