Sunbird SACCO
Sunbird Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) is member-owned Financial
Organization with the aim of improving the livelihood of its membership. It is
an affiliate of Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (MUSCCO) and
licensed by the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
The SACCO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill
the above vacant position.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Finance and Administration Officer (FAO) manages most of the financial,
human resources, and administrative functions of the SACCO. She/he manages and
supports financial reporting to provide management with timely and relevant
financial information to make informed decisions.
The FAO ensures that sound SACCO policies and practices are adopted and
implemented. She/he develops budgets and revenue forecasts and supports the
development of strategic plans as they impact operational functions.
In addition to financial management, the FAO manages the SACCO’s operational
resources. She/he ensures operation functions are efficient and effective and
recommends actions that improve efficiency, productivity, operational capacity
and alignment with the SACCO’s business plans and objectives. She/he is
accountable for ensuring operational functions are in compliance with SACCO’s
policies and procedures and internal reporting and governance bodies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management
> Manages the SUNBIRD SACCO’s budget and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
> Work with SACCO management to identify and implement follow-up actions when necessary.
> Manages timely and accurate recording of accounting transactions.
> Ensure compliance with SACCO policies and procedures and regulatory reporting requirements.
> Ensures the effective and efficient stewardship of SACCO’s assets and financial resources.
> Manages SACCO audits and ensure that audit findings recommendations are addressed and implemented.
> Manage other financial issues that arise, including risk management.
Business Operations
> Reports on SACCO’s performance and metric achievement.
> Recommend changes in business processes and structure as needed and oversee internal control processes.
> Ensure operation roles, responsibilities and workflows are clear and enhance member service.
> Supports the contracting of all consultants and contract management.
> Assists in identifying and addressing issues of high risk.
> Perform related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
> Typical office environment.
> Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
> Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/ Accounting or related field. Professional qualification CA (Mw)/CPA/ACCA/CIMA
> 3-5 years related work experience in Finance and Administration areas (e.g. administration, accounting, finance and human resources).
> Strong analytical and numerical skills.
> Strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to effectively convey complex details or technical information.
> Highly familiar with etiquette, protocol, and employing cultural awareness and sensitivity.
> Proven team player.
> Highly organized and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
> Experience in management of operations for a Financial Institution preferred.
