## Job Description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine, Institute of
Human Virology (IHV)*> is currently expanding our global lab team to support
laboratory strengthening and disease surveillance in eight countries in sub-
Saharan Africa. The International Lead Laboratory Research Project
Coordinator*> plays a critical role in coordinating and designing laboratory
programs to strengthen the system of sample transport, sample tracking, and
reporting of results; viral load (VL) and EID (early infant diagnosis)
actionable clinical results linkage; laboratory quality management systems
(LQMS) with emphasis on EQA towards accreditation; and TB and H. This
position will require travel to sub-Saharan Africa 30% of time.*> Benefits

Essential Duties

> Provide technical assistance in strengthening regional level to rollout lab services including Viral Load Monitoring (VLM).
> Work closely with Health Informatics team to support the establishment/ strengthening of sample tracking system.
> Support health facilities to increase access to viral load testing.
> Support viral load testing sites to reduce backlog samples and data to improve viral load testing Turnaround Time (TAT).
> Facilitate and support the development and/or revision, distribution and proper utilization of viral load specimen referral SOPs, request forms, registers and different provider support tools.
> Facilitate and support the development and/or revision, distribution and proper utilization of sample tracking, QMS, and HIV and TB surveillance SOPs, forms, registers and different support tools.
> Provide technical support and facilitate a robust EQA system.
> Provide technical support to implement WHO AFRO Laboratory accreditation process.
> Assess laboratories and prepare reports containing actionable strategies of improvement.
> Prepare and evaluate annual work plan with targeted benchmark indicators and evaluate them quarterly and harmonize annual, semi-annual and quarterly basis.
> Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual activity reports.
> Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education*> Bachelors in Biology, Chemistry or field of
study related to the research of the laboratory. Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience*> Three (3) years research coordination experience including two
(2) years in HIV research. Other*> May consider a combination of directly
related experience and education. Preferred

> Preferred TOT/ basic trainings on EID/VL testing, specimen referral, rapid HIV testing, CD4 enumeration, TB diagnosis and DST, LQMS, SLMTA, and Proficiency Testing (PT) preparation and interpretation, etc.
> Preferred experience in teaching, mentoring, organizing and conducting training.
> Preferred experience in mentoring and assessing WHO-AFRO SLIPTA and accreditation.
> Preferred experience in development of national/ regional documents related to specimen referral, testing and laboratory accreditation process.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

> Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills.
> Excellent communication skills (Proficiency in both English and French languages an advantage).
> Proficiency with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
