Research Assistant
Compelling Works is a digital health development consultancy firm promoting
health and wellbeing through innovative digital health solutions. Core
services include strengthening digital health governance; conceptualization,
design, and deployment of digital health solutions; and building capacity of
the digital health workforce.
Compelling Works in partnership with Cooper/Smith are supporting the
implementation of data-related activities of the Blantyre Prevention Strategy
project of the Ministry of Health Malawi, a project aiming to reduce HIV
incidence in Blantyre district through innovative prevention strategies,
interventions, and approaches. Part of this effort requires obtaining a good
understanding of network organizations engaged in HIV prevention in Blantyre
and the delivery channels in place. This will help in the identification of
opportunities and gaps in prevention service delivery.
Compelling Works is looking to hire the services of a Research Assistant to
support with different research undertakings over a 7-month period effective
1st December 2020. In the first undertaking, the Research Assistant will
support with the following
Scheduling and conducting interviews
The Research Assistant shall work with the Research Coordinator and Research
Team Lead to identify and agree on the individuals to be interviewed,
questions to be asked, and content of the questionnaire. The Research
Assistant will also support with the development of the questionnaire and
related materials and activities. During execution, weekly meetings will be
convened by the Research Team Lead to update the research team on the progress
and outputs.
Fill in data collection tools
The Research Assistant shall conduct key informant interviews in Blantyre
district per the direction of the research team and fill in all data
collection tools during interviews as directed by the Research Team Lead.
While conducting the interviews, the Research Assistant shall work closely
with the research team to ensure that the data collection tools developed
(questionnaires, interview guides etc.) are of good quality and meet
expectations of the research team.
Report drafting
The Research Assistant shall work with the Research Team Lead to draft reports
and other outputs as agreed upon with the research team.
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or other related Social Sciences
At least 2 years of work experience preferably in the health sector of Malawi
or in a research setting dealing with the analysis of public health related
data
Competence using digital tools for data analysis, interpretation, and use,
such as SPSS, SAS, Tableau, DHIS2 etc., is an advantage
Organized and able to manage schedules and timelines both personally and
within a team structure
Strong communication and presentation skills
Strong technical and writing skills
A team player driven by passion and desire to deliver quality products and
services.
Flexibility to work on an ad-hoc basis as and when needed by the research
team.
Engagement period and location
The engagement period will start on 1st December, 2020 and end on 30th June,
2021, in an ad-hoc arrangement, calling for the services of the Research
Assistant as and when needed.
The first assignment will run from 1st December 2020 to 15th January 2021.
Field work for the first assignment will take place in Blantyre District, so
the applicant should be able to work from Blantyre during the execution of
this assignment.
