Job Description
The role of Accountant will sit within the “Support & Administration Team’
which is responsible for ensuring that that all financial, operational and
administrative aspects of the Programme run effectively. Reporting to the Unit
Financial Accountant, you will be expected to provide a broad-ranging finance
support to the programme including the following
Responsibilities
> Review complex bank and balance sheet reconciliations of a number of overseas entities and proactively work with the Portfolio accountants, in country finance manager and Corporate Finance to expediently resolve identified variances and provide relevant training. Where necessary, the assistant financial accountant must be prepared to be hands on and proactively set up and complete balance sheet rectifications.
> To support the in-country Finance Manager and Finance Officers in preparing annual financial statements from the Group’s financial system
> To be proactive in understanding relevant local statutory legislation, MML’s internal financial controls, International Financial Reporting Standards and to support the IDS Financial accountant and in country finance manager to ensure compliance management
> To liaise with external stakeholders e.g. Auditors, Tax consultants etc. to ensure all statutory reports are filed on time
> To promote best practice in transfer pricing compliance through review and, where necessary assisting, of inter-entity agreements, invoices and correct recording of the transactions in the local and UK set of accounts.
> To carry out internal reviews in country of processes, internal controls and ensure compliance with local revenue authorities, including monthly/quarterly and annual returns. Ensuring Group Financial Internal controls are in place and being reviewed and approved regularly.
> To assist the Financial accountant in the Groups quarterly consolidation process
Candidate Specification
To be considered for this role you will;
> Recently or newly qualified accountant ACA/ACCA/CIMA
> Have strong experience of complex financial reconciliations
> Have strong communication skills both verbal and written
> Have excellent system skills and Excel
> Have excellent attention to detail
> Be proactive and be willing to travel
> French speaker would be advantageous
> Have experience of working in an international environment
> Be proactive and be willing to travel on short tours to project offices in overseas locations

Strengthening the Teaching of Primary School Mathematics in Malawi is a 3-year
programme that aims to improve student learning outcomes in mathematics, so
girls and boys have a solid foundation in basic skills to succeed in the rest
of their schooling and fulfil their potential. The programme will provide
technical assistance to facilitate the revision of the mathematics curriculum
for lower primary (standards 1-4), develop corresponding teaching and learning
materials, design teacher training strategies (including school-based support
structures), rigorously pilot the new materials and training strategies,
document impact, refine the materials and training strategies, and then
oversee the national scale-up. The Programme will operate from the Malawi
Institute of Education (MIE), based in Zomba during its pilot phase, and
thereafter will be coordinated from the Ministry of Education, Science and
Technology in Lilongwe.
