National Planning Commission

INTRODUCTION

The National Planning Commission (NPC) was established through an Act of
Parliament in 2017as an autonomous public institution mandated to lead in the
medium- and long-term national development planning and overseeing
implementation of the plans. In order to fulfil its mandate effectively and
efficiently, an opportunity has risen to fill-up three positions with
qualified persons at its Secretariat in Lilongwe, as part of the institutional
capacity building. The following are the required personnel and work-related
traits for the position.

FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION DIRECTORATE

Assistant Accountant

Grade NP6

Reporting to Senior Accountant

Purpose of the job To provide financial accounting services

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Preparing vouchers.
• Keeping and issuing accountable documents.
• Issuing receipts and preparing cheques.
• Issuing salary cheques.
• Supporting the preparation of financial statements and year-end accounts.
• Maintaining the cash book.
• Managing petty cash.
• Managing the financial filing system
• Managing the stores.
• Preparing bank reconciliation statements and other allocated ledgers
reconciliations.

Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications/Experience
• Bachelor of Accountancy or Business Administration or
• Diploma in Accounting or Business Studies; Studying towards Professional
Qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or CA, plus
• At least three (3) years’ experience in related fields.

Competencies and Personal Attributes
• Have dignity and self-control with high moral standards and high level of
personal integrity
• Strong analytical skills and forward looking;
• Excellent communication skills both orally and written; interpersonal
relationship skills; and time management skills;
• Experience in design and implementation of computerised accounting systems
with mastery of modern accounting/financial procedures and practices;
• Should be motivated, enthusiastic, innovative and effective team player.

TERMS AND CONDITION OF SERVICE

with qualifications and experience.
