Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority

The Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA) invites applications
from suitably qualified, highly motivated and well experienced persons of
Malawi origin to fill management positions tenable at the Pharmacy and
Medicines Regulatory Authority Head Office in Lilongwe.

#### THE ORGANISATION

The Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority is a body corporate created by
an Act of Parliament Number 9 of 2019 with the mandate to regulate medicines
and allied substances, pharmaceutical businesses and pharmacy personnel and
pharmacy training institutions in Malawi.

#### DETAILS OF THE POSITIONS

The details of the vacant positions are as follows

#### CHIEF MEDICINES INSPECTOR (GRADE 3)

Reporting to the Director General, the incumbent will be managing all
activities of inspectorate and Law
enforcement division of the Authority and accordingly advise management on
policy interventions and
operational matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

i. Plan and participate in inspections of pharmaceutical premises including
current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) with the view of improving the
quality and safety of medicines on the market;

ii. Planning and implementing cost effective inspections for the local
pharmaceutical establishments to ensure compliance with the provisions of the
PMRA Act, and to uphold the standard of pharmacy practice;

iii. Prepare annual budgets for all inspection activities with suitable work
plans and expected outcomes to fit with the expected cash flow;

iv. Reviewing and updating pharmacy laws and regulations;

v. In liaison with the law enforcement agencies such as the Police, lead a
team of inspectors to deal with the unlicensed sale of pharmaceutical
products;

vi. Apart from the inspections, explore alternative ways and means in liaison
with the relevant PMRA committees and other stakeholders; activities which
would reduce unlicensed sale of pharmaceutical products in collaboration with
other medical profession regulatory bodies in Malawi.

#### QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

i. Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from a recognized University

ii. Must be a registered Pharmacist with the PMRA

iii. High degree of integrity and good conduct

iv. Possession of a post-graduate qualification in Pharmaceutical Quality or
Safety related course would be an advantage.

v. At least five years’ experience in a pharmaceutical regulation related
field.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

i. Must be a self-starter and innovative

ii. Must have a deep knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical
regulatory environment

iii. Possess excellent communications (both oral and written) and
interpersonal skills

iv. Must have the ability to develop departmental plans and implement strategy
for the Authority

v. Must be able to lead a team of professionals towards the achievement of
goals and objectives of the Authority and be part of the management team.

vi. Must be of high integrity and proven track record of achievement of
results

vii. Must be fully conversant with the provisions of the PMRA Act number 9 of
2019.

viii. Must be fully computer literate in Microsoft packages.

ix. No criminal record.
