#### VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Program manager – Mother and child health program
Based in Phalombe, MALAWI
CONTEXT
Inter Aide is an international association that has been working in Malawi for
more than 25 years and now runs 10 programs in rural areas in the field of
community health, agriculture, access to water and maintenance of water
points. Currently, the association is implementing two community health
programs aimed at improving the health of young children and women, the first
in Lilongwe district and the second in Phalombe district. Each program is
deployed in the catchment areas of several rural
health centers (covering a total population of about 160,000 people) focusing
on prevention and early case management of the main pathologies responsible
for the mortality of young children (malaria, diarrheal diseases, respiratory
diseases and birth complications).
These programs are based on two main approaches
Activities at community level
They directly involve the population and community leaders to improve health
behaviors. Activities includes support to the publication and enforcement of
community health by-laws, community awareness, monitoring the adoption of good
health seeking behaviors and preventive practices.
Activities supporting the government health system
Implemented in close collaboration with district health services, they focus
on increasing and improving health care delivery for children under 5 and
pregnant women in targeted health centers.
Inter Aide is currently looking for a public health professional*> to
coordinate, evaluate and develop the Health Project in Phalombe.
MISSION
The Program Manager will be responsible for managing, evaluating and
developing the project in in the Phalombe area. He / she will be under the
supervision of the Country Director based in France.
In this capacity, the Program Manager will be responsible for
> ensuring the coherence and relevance of the strategy and the activities defined in response to identified needs;
> the practical implementation of these activities and their supervision;
> the development and implementation of a reliable and relevant monitoring and evaluation system, including ad hoc surveys;
> the development of the collaboration with the authorities and other local actors;
> coaching, evaluating and strengthening of the local team (about 26 people);
> recruitment and training of a deputy program manager;
> logistical coordination and sound management of the financial and material resources of the program;
> the financial and operational reporting to the Country Director and the Administrative and Financial Manager based in France.
PROFILE
> Medical or paramedical training, master’s degree in public health;
> First professional experience, preferably in developing countries and project management;
> Experience in working in a multicultural environment;
> Fluent English;
> Strong teaching skills, training and team building;
> Organizational and delegation capacities;
> Basic knowledge of statistics;
> Methodological rigor, patience, diplomacy, tenacity and autonomy;
> Field oriented (many trips to the targeted villages);
> Resistance to remoteness and social isolation.
