The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified person to
fill the position of Technical Advisor- Early Childhood Care & Development for
Power of Nutrition Project and the position is based in Lilongwe.(This
position is subject to funding).

The Technical Advisor Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) shall
provide technical leadership to

1) Quality implementation of ECCD activities in the Power of Nutrition project
by ensuring that ECCD interventions are integrated into nutrition
interventions delivered through care groups,

2) Design and oversight of knowledge management, research and learning
components of the ECCD component of the project including designing of
research protocols, tools and report of FR, gender analysis, SBC strategy,
parenting/caregiver and MDAT/child development

3) Develop strategic partnerships and networks with key partners for the
project like the Investing in Early Years programme and ECCD in general.

4) Represent the project and the organization in relevant fora including
donor/partner update meetings

5) Convene ECCD/Early Stimulation experts within Malawi, in close
collaboration with the project’s identified global consultant/expert to
provide support to the Power of Nutrition Project and other ECCD within the
Country Office. Drive efforts to expand Early Stimulation in ECCD programming
within the Country Office by integrating the component in existing ECCD
programs where possible and ensuring its inclusion in new ECCD interventions.

As part of the Save the Children Malawi, Programme Quality and Development
team the Technical Advisor will play a key role in integration of Early
Childhood Care and Development with other thematic areas of Save the
Children’s strategy, including in the designing, implementation and evaluation
and learning. With strong external relationships the role will support
dissemination of key learnings associated with ECD elements of the Power of
Nutrition project.

In order to be successful you will bring/have

> Minimum seven years’ programme management experience working in development/emergency response contexts, with specific experience in Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) programming in Malawi.

Specific experience in early stimulation will be highly valued.

> Previous experience of managing a team, and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
> Significant experience of project management, including multi-sector programmes, from a child rights approach in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and international humanitarian rights standards
> Understanding of award management, particularly for key institutional donors in the Education sector
> Demonstrated success in field level representation with key stakeholders and co-ordination with other NGOs/UN and Government
> Demonstrable experience of M&E and beneficiary accountability
> Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
> Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
> Strong influencing skills, experience and passion in advocating for children
> Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
> The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
> Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
