The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a recognized global
leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In its work to eliminate Padiatric AIDS
through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs, EGPAF
currently supports national, district, and local governments, facilities,
communities, and non-governmental partners. In 2020, EGPAF’s global footprint
spans 15 countries. EGPAF supports service provision for comprehensive HIV
care, treatment and prevention programs, and health systems strengthening. To
date, EGPAF has supported over 15,000 sites to offer HIV counselling,
prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services alongside high-quality family
health care. “

EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements
evidencebased HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 179 health
facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan
for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC)
funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing,
Care and Treatment in Malawi

EGPAF seeks to fill the following open position*>
Position*> Public Health Evaluation and Research Coordinator – Syndromic
Surveillance
Location*> Lilongwe
Reporting to*> Senior Research and Evaluation Manager

Position Summary*>
The Public Health Evaluation and Research Coordinator is a self-motivated
individual who will manage and oversee the implementation of COVID 19
Syndromic Surveillance Survey and evaluation of projects under EGPAF Malawi.
Under the leadership of the Senior Research Manager, the Public Evaluation and
Research Coordinator will work collaboratively with the EGPAF Senior
Management Team (SMT), stakeholders, Implementing Partners and study Principal
Investigators to ensure the Syndromic Surveillance is implemented on time,
within budget, in accordance with EGPAF, MoH and CDC policies and procedures,
and produce their expected deliverables. S/he must ensure that the syndromic
surveillance project is implemented according to study protocol and
procedures, and that data generated are of high quality. This position
requires experience with the implementation of research in a developing
country setting, preferably in the field of HIV and AIDS. It also requires the
ability to work well with professionals and staff from a wide range of
national and international organizations; and excellent management,
leadership, and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities*>
Contribute to the study planning; development of study procedures;
recruiting and training
Collaborate with study investigators and manage relations with study
supervisors
Manage study staff, as appropriate; supervising the planning,
implementation, and reporting on data collection;
Monitor compliance with study ethical provisions and consenting processes.
Monitor study progress and provide regular updates to the Principal
Investigators; compile regular and timely study progress reports derived from
field activities;
Participate in regular meetings to review progress
Monitor project field expenditures and ensure proper and efficient financial
and administrative implementation of project activities, including adherence
to work plans and budgets, as well as compliance with local laws and customs,
donor requirements, and EGPAF policies and procedures.
Assist in any other study related tasks as deemed necessary by Project
Principle Investigators.
Contribute to scientific writing and capacity building of non-research staff

Qualifications, Knowledge and Key Competences*>
A Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology or social sciences is added
advantage
A degree in public health, epidemiology or social sciences with at least 4
years of experience in the implementation of HIV and AIDS research projects in
low resource settings, including the implementation of community-based
research projects.
Quantitative and qualitative research skills and experience such as
experience conducting focus group discussion, in-depth interviews, piloting
tools, or community research experience are a plus
Proficiency in Access databases, Excel and STATA or other data collection
and statistical/qualitative software such as SPSS and MAXqda or NVivo.
Documented ability to work independently and to collaborate with senior
colleagues, donors, partner organizations, government, relevant stakeholders
and others at all levels.
Excellent English language, oral and written communication skills; strong
organizational and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel extensively in Malawi.
Experience with USAID/PEPFAR-funded projects desirable
Ability to work well independently and within a team
Excellent analytical, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of
team
Good understanding of research methodologies, research ethics
Good attention to detail and excellent follow-through
Strong written and verbal skills
Strong analytical skills
Ability to develop others by providing ongoing feedback and by providing
opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
Ability to manage conflict by encouraging creative tension and differences
of opinions.
He/she should be able to anticipate and take steps to prevent counter-
productive confrontations while resolving conflicts and disagreements in a
constructive manner.
Ability to build and manage workforce based on organization goals, budget,
considerations, and staff needs.
He/she should ensure that employees are appropriately recruited, selected,
appraised, and rewarded.
He/she should also manage a multi-cultural workforce and a variety of
workforce situations
