The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) is a
member based business association with membership from all sectors of the
Malawi economy. The Confederation’s mission is to advance the interests of
businesses in Malawi through representation and provision of value adding
services.

The Confederation would like to invite applications from ONLY suitably
qualified and competitive candidates to fill a vacancy that has arisen in its
Directorate of Business Environment and Policy Advocacy. The incumbent reports
directly to the Director, Business Environment and Policy Advocacy. The
position is tenable at the Central Region Office based in Lilongwe.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the position of Head, Real Sector and Macroeconomic
Policy, is to ensure that public policies support the development of the
productive capacity of Malawi’s real sector. This is achieved by conducting
practical research and analysis on macro-policies to establish the extent to
which they promote industry and trade competitiveness, and drawing appropriate
proposals and recommendations that should inform Government’s public policy
reform agenda.

Specific roles and responsibilities

1\. Establish policy related constraints to business efficiency and
productivity by conducting research among the business community and analyzing
the results to isolate prominent obstacles to doing business;

2\. Utilise the research findings to resolve the challenges faced by
businesses that do not require reforms;

3\. Develop and implement public policy lobbying and advocacy programs and
action plans on the basis of the findings of the research;

4\. Develop a proposed public policy reforms agenda for presentation to
Government regarding serious obstacles to doing business;

5\. Consistently provide regular feedback to members on progress made on
challenges submitted to the Confederation;

6\. Monitor and track progress of Government response on issues presented to
them and update the Confederation’s members of such progress;

7\. Provide periodic reports on developments in trade and industry nationally,
regionally and globally, from time to time, highlighting opportunities for
members to take up and threats for them to mitigate against.

8\. Mobilize resources through drafting of concept notes to strengthen the
financial position of the Confederation.

9\. Provide leadership and oversight of staff and performance of the Central
Region office.

Qualifications, Competences and Personal Attributes*>

1) An advanced degree in economics, trade, industrial development, or related
field from a recognized institution of higher learning

2) At least 8 years’ experience in the field of economics, trade, and /or
industrial policy

3) Proven competencies in conducting and interpreting research in the above
areas

4) Ability to apply research results to the intended audience in a manner that
is understood by the audience

5) Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English as well as
ability to make presentations to both smaller and larger audiences.

6) Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
