Palliative Nurse Supervisor
Médecins Sans Frontières, (MSF) is an international independent medical
humanitarian organization working in partnership with the Ministry of Health
and other sectors in Blantyre and environs on a cervical cancer project.
MSFF is looking for its Blantyre office, Cervical Cancer Project.
Palliative Nurse Supervisor 1 POSITION
Workplace Blantyre
Type of contract 6 Months Fixed term contract with possible extension
Start March 2021
Main purpose of the position
Ensuring the daily running of the palliative activity according to MSF
protocols and universal health standards, in order to guarantee the security,
continuity and quality of health care in the project.
Main responsibilities
> To draw up and ensure the follow-up of the weekly activity planning, in collaboration with the palliative MAM.
> Taking the lead in tracking the patients who missed their appointments, in order to avoid lost to follow-up cases.
> Providing clinical supervision and training for the palliative nurses, based on identified needs.
> Collaborating closely with the team in order to provide continuous quality of care in the projects, upholding and respecting the charter of MSF and ensuring that patient interest and autonomy are respected at all times
> Supporting nursing team in case of absence of a nurse, or unexpected increase in the workload, by providing nursing care or any technical support needed, to ensure continuity of care for the patients.
> Organizing/attending wards meetings and participate in any other relevant meeting and make sure that the collaboration with the MOH or other actor (e.g. Tiyangane clinic) is going well.
> Ensuring and follow-up with the pharmacy supervisor that the orders are regular done in order to always maintain the necessary minimum of stock of the essential drugs in palliative care.
> Supervision of the daily refill of the medications in the home care bag.
> Collaborate with the dispenser or the pharmacy supervisor on managing expired items and regular inventories of medication in the home care bag.
> Supervising and follow-up of the appropriate use of medical devices and biomedical equipment (weekly quality control), and anticipating and communicating future needs, in close collaboration with the pharmacy supervisor and the logistic team.
> Ensuring good supply of medical items used by the team (hand sanitizer, surgical masks), by passing order/internal requests, and follow-up the reception and the consumption of these items.
> Monitoring the process of dispensing and consumption of restricted drugs, dispensed during home-based visits.
Requirements
> Education Essential Speciality diploma (nurse/midwife) & valid registration with Nurses Council
> Experience Essential 2 years of previous experience, essential experience of supervising (supervisor or manager), experience of gynecological, oncological, palliative and surgical nursing desirable. , work experience in MSF or another NGO’s desirable.
> Language English written and spoken, Chichewa
> Competencies Strong in planning and organizing, punctual, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, stress management.
