Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian
organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in
crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or
political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF works in collaboration with the Ministry
of Health and the local community in integrated HIV/AIDS in Chiradzulu
District and Cervical Cancer projects Blantyre districts.

### Position QUALITATIVE FIELD ASSISTANT (2 Positions)

Type of contract 1 month Fixed term contract
Start date Immediate
Main purpose of the position
Participate in the qualitative data collection for the research project
“Impact of COVID-19 on HIV and TB patient care”*> , under supervision of the
qualitative researcher. Conduct in-depth interviews and group discussions
(including Participatory Learning and Action tools, PLA) independently and in
collaboration with the qualitative researcher, translating from English to
Chichewa and back.
Main responsibilities
> Act as a translator (English to Chichewa and vice versa) for qualitative researcher during qualitative data collection
> Conduct in-depth interviews, group discussions, including Participatory Learning and Action tools PLA, independently (with HIV/TB patients, including adolescents 10-19 years and caretakers) under supervision of qualitative researcher
> Write up extensive field notes after each day of data collection
> Participate in team debriefings and provide input and insights to ways of improving data collection
> Translate tools from English to Chichewa
> Participate in the piloting of qualitative tools and provide feedback and input to adaptions
> Participate in the recruitment of study participants, including elaborately explaining the purpose of the study
> Arrange logistical and administrative details related to the qualitative data collection
> Transcribe interviews and group discussion from Chichewa to English
> Liaise with Financial Department and the person responsible for reimbursement of participants

Requirements
> Education Essential Degree in Social Sciences/ Social Administration/ Public Health.
> Experience Essential Experience in conducting qualitative data collection & preferably as a Project Assistant
> Desirable Previous experience in conducting qualitative data collection among patients/ vulnerable groups and adolescents
> Experience of working in a study team
> Language English & Chichewa essential
> Knowledge Desirable computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet).
> Competencies Empathetic, open, non-judgmental and able to quickly develop trusting rapport with different research participants (adolescents, caretakers & patients)
> Excellent listening skills and ability to ask follow up questions
